After almost ten years at 181 Carlaw, Riddle Films has moved to a new home. We are now located at 229 Greenwood Avenue, Toronto ON M4L 2R4. Although we are sad to say good-bye to our old digs, we are very excited to be in the new place! If we can only figure out how to put our desks back together, we’ll be up and running in no time.

Shooting has begun for God’s Greatest Hits. First up was the unique version of Amazing Grace by The Blind Boys of Alabama. The intrepid team of Liam Romalis, Kiarash Sadigh, Gary Vaughan and the incomparable Mako Funasaka captured the series’s first images in Port Credit, right here in the GTA. Thanks to the Southside Shuffle Festival for their generous help.

Below is a small sample of what we captured:

In 2004, we traveled to Ottawa for a screening of Carry Me Home at the Library and Archives of Canada. While walking around downtown, we bumped into Jack Layton in front of Parliament. He had just got off his bike and was heading into work. Liam and Jack are old friends and Jack told us he was loving his (then) pretty new job. Thank you for your inspiration and deep caring for this country Jack. We’ll miss you!

Welcome to our new website! In 2012, we’ll be entering our tenth year and we thought that was a good excuse to give ourselves a bit of a facelift. We’ve got a new logo and have worked hard to update our site with more things to watch and read, while at the same time making it easier to navigate. You can also now find us on Facebook and Twitter. Please visit often for updates and announcements. We are busy at work on a number of new projects and hope to be able to tell you about them soon.

Special thanks goes to Sean Nilsson of Sheltered in Sound for designing and building our new online home. Sean is a gifted musician as well as a designer and you can check him out at www.shelteredinsound.com.

Join adventurer and explorer, George Kourounis, as he travels to the edges of civilization, visiting the most remote places on Earth. Communities, cultures at risk of vanishing forever.

To the Ends of the Earth brings you stories about people’s indomitable will to survive against all odds in the most extreme conditions on the planet. This adventure series is part cultural experience and part epic exploration of places on the edge of human inhabitability. In each episode, viewers visit virtually impossible to reach locales and learn what it takes to survive, and even thrive, in the most harsh, remote or endangered spots on Earth.

Host George Kourounis has spent years traveling to many of the most inhospitable places and obscure countries in the world and specializes in documenting environmental extremes and the people who live in them. Never afraid to jump in with both feet, he brings his own perspective as an outsider as he becomes a member of these communities for a brief period of time.

Many of these locations serve as a warning to us of the environmental consequences of rampant development and disregard for our impact on the planet. These communities are the “canary in a coal mine” for such issues as climate change, sea level rise and pollution. But they can also serve as inspiration, showing how people are able to persevere in the bleakest of places, the harshest of climates, and even turn things around.

This series combines stunning cinematography, exotic locations and exchanges with some of the most unique people in the world. The hardships and dangers of these hostile places make To the Ends of the Earth the most compelling half hour on television. We are reminded of our fragile relationship with the planet we call home and lifted up by all its possibilities.

So, dust off your red/blue Anaglyph glasses and check out the 3D trailer below:

BREAKING NEWS: VisionTV commissions Riddle Films’s new music documentary series called God’s Greatest Hits!God’s Greatest Hits was the title originally suggested by Harry Nilsson for the Duit on Mon Dei album. The title was apparently rejected by RCA. His loss is our gain.

Because music is so subjective, it is very difficult to pronounce any single piece the MOST holy or MOST divine. In God’s Greatest Hits, we make a case for why the following five selections are arguably the most powerful pieces of music ever written. And we do so by understanding the genesis of the music and experiencing it in performance. In each episode, musical luminaries, including critics, world class musicians and religious experts, will argue the merits of an individual selection – and those selections will be supported by breathtaking performances.

Viewers will come away with a new appreciation of music they already know and love.

Combining contemporary performances with archival performance footage and interviews with some of the most heralded musicians of our day, God’s Greatest Hits is a celebration of some of the most divinely inspired pieces of music ever written.

Click on the link below to see footage that might find it’s way into the series:
