Gospel Challenge

Mahalia Jackson. Sam Cooke. The Blind Boys of Alabama. Over the decades, many of North America’s most gifted singers have come from the world of gospel music. Now, some ordinary Canadians have the chance to add their own voices to this rich tradition.

In Gospel Challenge, aspiring gospel vocalists in three Canadian cities come together to live out a dream. Under the guidance of the country’s most acclaimed professional choir leaders, they have just one week, from auditions to the final bow, to rehearse and prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime televised performance in front of a live audience.

“Gospel music was here before R&B, before blues. Gospel music was the beginning. And we need to let everybody know it’s still here. It’s still alive.”
